Keane enters history books….

This Saturday Leinster Rugby Referee David Keane will become the most-capped Sevens referee in the world when he takes charge of his 123rd game on the IRB Sevens World Series circuit.

David Keane is currently tied on 122 games with Japan’s Taizo Hirabayashi but when he takes charge of New Zealand v Kenya on Saturday morning he will set a new record.
He will extend that record even further at the HSBC Sevens World Series tournament in London when he referees two more games on the opening day.

Keane, an IRFU Referee Development Officer, has been a regular on the IRB Sevens circuit since making his debut in Dubai in 2006 as the man in the middle for the New Zealand v South Africa tie.

He has refereed four finals in the IRB Sevens World Series to date – Dubai, George, London and Adelaide.

Joe Keogh R.I.P

It is with deepest regret that we have to announce the death of Joe Keogh RIP, a long standing member of the Leinster Rugby Referees, following a brave battle with illness.

A member of Skerries RFC and formerly Drogheda RFC, Joe served the Referees for over 30 years as both an active member and assessor. He was ever present to welcome referees to the Skerries club and was renowned for his hospitality to our members following the game. Joe was also a keen Cricketer and a lifelong member of The Hills Cricket Club in North County Dublin.

On behalf of the Executive Committee and the Members of the Association we wish to extend our deepest condolences and sympathies to his wife Máire and his family. He will be sorely missed.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam uasail.
