Message from the President


A huge amount of work is being put into assessing and coaching this season, as promised at the annual seminar. We were ahead of schedule prior to the adverse weather over the winter but unfortunately this work was slowed down due to the snow, ice and fixture cancellations.

We will be working flat out over the coming months, until the end of the season to meet our assessing quota and would like to ensure all referees that they will be assessed at least once this season. Continue reading Message from the President

Montayne brothers keeping the whistle in the family

On January 14, 2001, John Montayne’s trial match as a referee was assessed by Sean Hanahoe. John’s brother Brian joined the ranks a matter of months later with his trial match in October watched by Harry Burke.

Both brothers had succumbed to the persuasion of Denis Collins, their Seapoint Rugby club-mate and stalwart of the Leinster Rugby Referees, in taking up the whistle. Continue reading Montayne brothers keeping the whistle in the family

Leinster Referees host foundation course in Old Belvedere…

The course presenters were David O’Brien (IRFU) and Gearoid Ferrick (Leinster Rugby Referees) which started at 10am and finished at 3.30pm. A total of 29 people attended and came from a large geographical spread and a varied age group.

Fran Nolan (President, Leinster Rugby Referees) welcomed everyone and hoped that they all would move into the referee ranks, he thanks the Leinster Branch and IRFU for all their help and support in the recruitment of referees. The course was divided into different modules starting with match preparation, the laws and interpretation of them to dealing with the game itself in the areas of tackle, scrum, lineout, ruck and maul.
