Fellow referee Brian MacNeice has agreed to take part in a Charity White Collar Boxing event to raise funds for the Help Sergio Fund. Sergio O’Connor is a very brave one year old twin boy that is suffering from a very rare condition which prevents him from eating, drinking or swallowing. For more information about little Sergio and his appeal fund visit http://www.helpsergio.com/
This provides you with a unique opportunity – you can pay for the privilege of getting Brian into a boxing ring to be pummelled by an opponent! At present he is being trained by Olympic Gold Medallist, Michael Carruth who is putting him through his paces and preparing him for fight night which will be on Friday 11th May. However, under the terms of his contract negotiated by his boxing agent (Mrs MacNeice) he is not allowed enter the ring unless he raises sufficient sponsorship funds to make it worthwhile. This is where the Leinster Referees come in. You have the double incentive of helping to raise money for the inspirational Sergio whilst at the same time condemning Brian to a beating. How can you resist?
If you wish to sponsor Brian and ensure that he has to fight on May 11th then please send him an email with your donation amount to brian.macneice[at]kotinospartners.com. He will make an arrangement to collect the donated sum in advance of fight night.
The IRFU will host Tag referee workshops at various locations over the next few weeks of April and May. Starting on Monday April 16, the IRFU Tag referee workshops will take place at key regional venues in Leinster.
Referees/Captains Workshops 2012
(commencing at 7.30pm)
Monday, April 16 – Dublin South – Old Belvedere RFC Wednesday, April 25 – Dublin South – St. Mary’s College RFC (TBC) Thursday, May 3 – Dublin North – Suttonians RFC Tuesday, May 22 – Naas – Naas RFC
All claims for this season must be with the Hon. Treasurer before the middle of May. Those claims received after May will not be paid, other than for referees who have matches in May. You have been warned.
Preparations for the IRFU’s Summer activities are well under way. Along with the well established Tag Rugby programme, Volkswagen Tag, The IRFU will be introducing a new sport, Touch Rugby, to Dublin. This game is played along similar lines to Tag Rugby with a ‘tackle’ made by touching the ball carrier rather than pulling a tag. As with Tag Rugby the participation of referees is crucial to the success of the events. Touch is an ideal way to keep active and fit during the Summer months.
There will be a referee workshop ‘Introduction to Touch Refereeing’ on Wednesday next, 11th April at 7pm in St. Marys College RFC, Templeville Road.
The contact person for Touch referees is Peter Fitzgibbon (IRFU Leisure Rugby Referee Officer). He can be contacted at email@example.com . Peter will also be in attendance next Wednesday.
