Leinster Match Program – Article 15

This was the last article from last season and appeared in the B&I Cup Final Program.

As another season draws to a close our focus in Leinster Rugby Referees is firmly on next season and with that recruitment. We are always looking for new talented referees, so whether you are retiring from the game, injured or just looking for a different aspect to rugby, perhaps refereeing is for you.

Referee Recruitment and Development is a key element of Leinster Rugby policy. The investment in referee development in Leinster has produced some of the most highly regarded referees in world rugby. Some of the famous names in refereeing circles to have come out of the Leinster Refereeing production line in recent years include Donal Courtney (Monkstown FC), who is now working with the IRB refereeing selection committee and responsible for ERC Referee performance, Alan Lewis (Old Wesley RFC) who appointed to referee at the 2007 Rugby World Cup and multiple European games and Alain Rolland (Blackrock College RFC) who was appointed to referee at the 2007 Rugby World Cup and ended up refereeing the final. Roller then went on to the 2011 World Cup and also refereed in the 2009 Lions tour. He will referee his third Heineken Cup Final in a few weeks before taking a well-deserved retirement.

Helen O’Reilly to referee World Cup Semi Final

Helen’s superb refereeing form has been rewarded with an appointment to referee France v Canada on Wednesday. Kick off is 19.45 Irish Time and the game will be live on Sky Sports. Helen has already refereed the first two rounds of the tournament (France v Wales and Canada v Samoa).

This is a richly deserved appointment and a credit to the hard work that Helen has put in during the year. We all wish her well.
